Improvised Toy
In a land where the poor cannot afford to buy toys, it’s amazing what the children can do and just how much enjoyment they get from what they make. At Habu I first saw this boy in the street taking his machine for a ride. I then went to a food store and sat outside talking with the owner. The boy passed by to take water from a cooling machine outside of the shop. He was quite insistent to wheel his machine up the curb towards the water dispenser. The picture shows a swivel caster wheel on the end of palm tree twig, I quite like the electric bulb at the front; after all, it must have lights. There are other gadgets including what could be the boot or trunk.

I pass this man every time on my way to the mountains. I have said Ahlan so many times and on this occasion I stopped for tea with him and his father. I have since purchased some of his hand made items.

Farm at Shelwit
On my way through this lovely countryside, I saw a water pump (Saga water pump) which was post the wooden wheel type but pre the diesel motor type now being used by almost everyone. You can see why they have moved in favour of the motor type. The one in the pictures requires one man and one cow to operate it; it is with no doubt arduous and tedious to keep going for any length of time.
Take a picture of a water pump and you cannot leave without taking one of the farm children; they insist.

Old Qurna Village "The Qurna Experience"
This proud man is the keeper of one of the few remaining houses of old Qurna. It has the name of “ The Qurna Experience” It is in its original state and inside this house is an exhibition of photos and drawing of what the village once looked like and the peoples who lived there. There are several items on display. The keeper lives in another house next door, the only two to survive in this area. I was invited to have tea with him; it is a local traditional hospitality.
