Sun Cult Complex – Hatshepsut Temple – Deir el-Bahari
On the third level at the northern end are the Sun Cult Complex and Chapel.
Today was the official opening.
Attending the opening ceremony of this Sun Cult Complex were Dr. Mamdouh Eldamaty (Minister of State die Antiquities), H.E. Mr Michal Markocinski (Ambassador of the Republic of Poland) and Dr. Zbigniew E. Szafranski (Director of Egyptian-Polish Archaeology at Hatshepsut Temple)
It was a great day where each of the dignities gave a speech before making their way into the complex. Inside, Dr. Szafranski took us around and explained in detail the reliefs and the work done by the Polish team. We then went into the chapel where he explained to us the details of the inside. After the Press, the Photographers and those invited to this ceremony had viewed the chapel; Dr. Szafranski then invited the public to view the inside. You could tell by the faces of these excited tourists cueing, that they were delighted. It was great to see.
It is now open to the public
Metropolitan (Polish) House Asasif.
In the evening, there was a lecture for the 100-year celebration of this working dig house. Marcel Maessen gave the lecture, we are quite used to seeing Marcel as he has given many lectures on dig houses. To say the least, the lecture was well up to his standards and again was well presented with detailed views on screen. I enjoyed immensely the old photos of the house and its development through the ages. Great thanks to Marcel and look forward to his next lecture.
Many thanks to Dr. Szafranski for my invite to this celebration and giving me this opportunity to write about it and to share my many photos.
