Amenhotep III Mortuary Temple - Memnon
This site ceases to amaze me. It gives excitement and interest every day that brings something new to view and see as you pass by the roadside. It most certainly seems to be the most active site here in the West Bank.

This was more than a week ago. It first looked as thought they were going to raise this piece of a colossi, but it is still in situ, so perhaps that is where they will leave it or they might move it later and reconstruct it with its other parts. Watch this space.
This is where they have been slowly and patiently reconstructing the lower part of a statue. I am sure it will look spectacular when finished. Everyone that passes the road can see the daily update of this piece.
Another nice piece possibly waiting to be put on its plinth or even rebuilt.
Today as I passed I saw these men pulling this newly built plinth that will be placed in the ground to support yet another new discovery from this site.
There has been a great deal of work going on around this wooden structure. It looks as thought they will raise the part of colossi on the left and reattach it to the main part inside the wooden structure. I have no doubt that it will look wonderful when finished.

Dig Site Closed for Summer
With Amenhotep III Mortuary Temple, all the new finds are covered in white sheets. They have done some great work this year on the South site with the rebuilding of many colossi, statues and monuments and on the North site they have built the basis where they will re-build two very large colossi. All the pieces have been removed from the North pit where the colossi pieces were found and the land levelled and returned to the owner.

The two Memnon Colossi have had a lot of work done to the basis of the statues in an attempt to make them more secure. This probably is a more busier place than most of the temple
