Old Qurnet Mura'i Village
Old Qurnet Mura'i Village
I am quite sure that all of you will be familiar with the above picture as seen from the roundabout at the Ticket Office.
As is customary here when there is not a ticket to purchase for a site, it is always good practice to ask if you are allowed to visit and take photos. I went to see the Ticket Office manager but he was not there. I asked a three star ranking Police Officer if I could walk up the hill to the old village and take some photos, he said it would be all right for me to do that, so off I went.
I have visited this village before in March 2011 when there was a protest by many of the previous owners of these houses. You can read my article under "Old Qurna Village Protest"
On my way up the hill to the village, I past a female tourist coming down and making her way to a waiting taxi.
I Looked around this amazing village and realised that there is more to see than from the road below. What also is surprising is how many houses have tombs under them and some of them still have amazing coloured wall drawings in them. It is easy to imagine just how nice this village must have been in its good days and when fully occupied and with its peoples going about their daily tasks and business. Some of these houses were indeed very nice inside and the occupants must have had a reasonable standard of living as regards other villages near and around.

In my last article I was sitting on the left with the previous owners.
